There are many occasions where you can find a maid for yourself and direct hire them to work for you. Direct hiring simply means getting the maid on your own or without going through an employment agency. If you are looking to do so, the easiest way is by the word of mouth, getting recommendations from people around you. Perhaps you had employed a maid before and plan to hire again, try to offer this opportunity to your previous maid so you can direct hire her.

After choosing the maid of your choice, you may be wondering what to do to get her over to Singapore? Well, you can either bring her in by applying for her work permit and going through a ton of paperwork or, let an employment agency like Express Maid to take care of it for you. 

Let’s say you want to take the matter into your own hands, you need to first make sure that you have attended the Employers’ Orientation Program (EOP) beforehand. After that, you may proceed with the application of the work permit for your FDW. It will take around seven days for you to get the approval from MOM. Once successful, you will receive an In-Principle Letter that allows you to officially bringing your FDW into Singapore. There are a few more items to take note of after the application work permits such as buying the insurance, getting the security bond, arranging the medical checkup etc. More details can be found on the MOM website. 

On the other hand, you will need to make sure if the country of origin of the maid has any special requirement like obtaining the Overseas Worker Card, which is required by the Indonesia or Philippines government. If so, it will be your duty to ensure that your FDW has fulfilled those requirements before leaving her home country. Bear in mind that most of the required documentation has to be done while the worker is still in her country. Failure to fulfil the requirements might result in your FDW being turned away at the immigration custom.
